Best Rope For Rappelling/Canyoning

Are you looking to get out there and do your own rappelling and canyoning? Here we’ll share with you what we think is the best rope for rappelling (which is what we use on our tour).

Obviously, if you’re starting out it really is best to make sure you’re learning all the things you need to before setting out on your first adventures. Once you’ve got all that lined up, and you’re looking to get your own gear, that’s where this recommendation might come in handy.

We’ve tried out a bunch of different ropes for rappelling and this one is our favourite so far:

Sterling Canyon Tech, 9.5mm.

It’s a static rope, which means it has very little stretch/bounce. That’s particularly helpful when rappelling because the semi-static ropes end up running back and forth a lot over the rocks as they stretch and recoil (causing damage to the protective layer more rapidly).

One of our other favourite pieces of this rope is that the polymer fiber that protects the inner cords, is a close relative of Kevlar – which you know is an incredibly resilient material. This, coupled with the very low stretch in the rope makes it very resistant to abrasive damage.

You can find their website here.

This is not a sponsored post or anything like that. We just genuinely like this rope the best.

If you’ve tried another rope that you prefer over this one, we’d love to hear about it below!
